Postural Screenings

Postural (spinal) deviations such as scoliosis and kyphosis often develop insidiously during adolescent growth spurts. Scoliosis is sideways curving of the spine and kyphosis is convex curve (or humpback) of the spine. The State of Connecticut school screening program allows for early detection and therefore early treatment of scoliosis and kyphosis, thus preventing progression of a serious health problem.

The postural screening program for 5th grade girls will be held during PE class as follows:

  • Mrs. Dougan’s Class – Tuesday, April 28 from 9:05 to 9:50 a.m.
  • Mrs. Osher’s Class – Wednesday, April 29 from 9:05 to 9:50 a.m.
  • Mrs. Ward’s Class – Thursday, April 30 from 9:05 to 9:50 a.m.

A more detailed letter will be emailed home by the classroom teachers. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Nurse Nicole Fry at 203-894-5825 ext. 6575.
